Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Today I joined in the style dare from Fox In Flats – to spend the entire day in an outfit inspired by Audrey Hepburn in the iconic opening scenes from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Let’s just say I was outside my comfort zone here! Even though I wore a casual black maxi dress, the addition of pearls to the floor length skirt made me feel so thoroughly overdressed, like I was on my way to a ball or something.

The funny thing was I only got one comment on my clothing the whole day, and even then it was a passing polite compliment at the very end of the evening. I’m sure many people would have thought I was a little more dressed up than necessary, or at the very least a little quirky. So what I learnt today was that you can get away with much more than you think you can when it comes to your outfit – particularly if you are overdressed!

I can definitely credit this dare with giving me the extra push to buy this maxi dress yesterday – I didn’t have a LBD that currently fits me (and that I could breastfeed in). I’m looking forward to styling this dress in different ways over the summer months and then into the cooler weather beyond that.

And you can’t call me chicken  ;)

Today my faith has been restored in this white skirt. So far I’ve struggled to find things to pair with it, but today for the first time I found a top that looks better with my white skirt than my beloved denim pleated one.

I quite liked this outfit today, it felt fresh and summery and entirely appropriate for the hot day that it was. In fact I should really have driven to the seaside to take pictures today, with my nautical stripes and white skirt. Instead of hanging out at the shopping centre buying cheap bedroom lamps and losing Little Miss H’s expensive drink bottle. Sigh.

Look Down

I have a confession: I’m not much into shoes. Give me a few versatile pairs and let me spend my money elsewhere. But – these shoes are the exception to the rule. They caught my eye and I really, really liked them. So what else was there to do but to buy them?

The rest of the outfit I’m not so sold on. I think it’s fair to say that the way you choose to present yourself, including clothes, says a fair bit about you personally. I’ve been running on too little sleep for too many days now and was feeling pretty scrappy this morning. I’m sure that was reflected in this outfit which just didn’t feel right to me.

But whenever I looked down at those glorious shoes it made me skip for joy! (On the inside. I didn’t want to freak people out or anything.)

I saw this top the other day and decided maybe it was time I had a go at this “florals” thing people have been getting into lately. I don’t tend to go for girly things like lace and flowers, but this is growing on me. Probably helps that it has spots as well! One thing’s for sure, it’s nice to wear something with a print for a change – I always seem to buy solid coloured items, I can’t seem to help myself.

Today was spent helping to run my sister-in-law’s turtle themed baby shower. Why turtles you ask? Well when Little Miss H first saw the ultrasound image of their baby she thought it was a picture of a turtle. Not sure exactly how she saw a turtle, but hey ultrasound pictures are a bit of a mystery to me too. It was cute, so it kind of stuck and the baby has been referred to as a turtle ever since.
