Towards the end of the year time seems to speed up, like everything suddenly needs to be crammed in before it grinds to a halt for the holiday season. This process seems to have started ridiculously early this year – I’ve been kept really busy for several weeks already and it now doesn’t look like there’s be any down-time before 2014 rolls around! The good news is that it looks very much like my Nan’s house will sell quickly and easily and she’ll be in the new place before Christmas. But between here and then are still many things to organise.
My new favourite top got another outing today – I love wearing it because not only is it really comfortable, but I always get compliments. I paired it with a red cardigan today which was perfect for a sunny spring day. It’s difficult to see from the photos, but my top has some beige-grey (taupe?) mixed in which helps to soften the contrast between the red, navy and white.
It’s not very often you’ll see me without a splash of colour, but today I thought I’d give a nod to simple black and white (which is apparently a trend at the moment). I had to restrain myself from throwing on a colourful necklace or bracelet, instead going with some simple black earrings.
I didn’t intend for it to work out this way, but today I’ve got two little themes going on. The first is my use of colour – all shades of green and blue. Deep ocean colours, cool and calm. The second is birds – on closer inspection you can see I’m wearing a flamingo top with an owl necklace. Kind of an unusual birdy pairing really, but I doubt many people would actually notice normally!
I am deadly serious when I say to you this black belt is magic. I promise you, my waist is not nearly as trim as it appears in these photos! I know it’s the belt because I also tried a skinny belt and it just wasn’t as good. And then to be doubly sure I tried one of my other waist belts, which is stretchy, and it wasn’t as good either.
If you don’t own a wide waist belt of the non-stretchy variety, may I recommend that you find one and at least try it on. I’ve no idea if they are in the shops at the moment as I’ve had this one for several years (can you believe only worn for the first time in recent weeks?), but right now I’m so glad it’s mine!
I love mixing different styles to create an outfit, such as today’s feminine lace top with some tough distressed denim.
At the moment it feels as though every hot day might be the last of the season, so I have to make the most of the opportunities to get some more wear out of these new shorts. I also thought I’d take part in Marionberry Style’s trend of the month, which for March is “lace”. And after admiring this outfit by J’s Everyday Fashion featuring distressed denim jeans with a crochet peplum top, today’s outfit pretty much created itself!
The only thing I’d like to change is the necklace. This owl necklace is the only longer length necklace I own and I have to say I’m ready for a change. I’d love a brightly coloured pendant necklace, maybe emerald-green or yellow. Alas, having already spent my budget for the next several weeks this will definitely have to wait.
