If you count denim jeans as a “neutral”, which I do, then add this to my very short list of outfits composed entirely of neutrals. As a colour-loving girl, I generally have at least one little burst of bright colour somewhere in my outfit.

I did like this outfit though, and it helped me to understand why some people naturally gravitate towards neutrals – it’s very calming.

Tights Time

Quest for a Functional Wardrobe - Tights Time

Earlier this winter I decided that only fleece lined tights could keep my legs warm enough, but today it seemed like a good idea to get these thinner navy ones out again. Either I’ve acclimatised to the cold, or it’s just optimism born from the recent run of milder weather. Regardless, it provided me an opportunity to wear a dress that hasn’t gotten much wear lately. And after only recently deciding I could afford to be more adventurous pairing items with this burgundy cardigan, I was really pleased with how this outfit came together!

Today I’m linking up with Audrey from Putting Me Together for One Piece Many Ways and AJ Wears Clothes for Friday Favourite Remix. Here are some other ways I’ve worn this print dress:

Green Necklace

Today I wore my new green necklace, a gift from my parents-in-law for my birthday. My first thought was “it’s a lovely necklace, but what would I do with it?”. Green isn’t a colour I wear very often so I’m less confident working with it – I went for a safe pairing today with this navy/green print top.

A quick look through my wardrobe convinced me I definitely have a few items I can pair this necklace with – obviously this navy/green top, plus a couple of floral print tops and my green skirt. And there’s always neutrals to fall back on, which for me is mainly white, navy and black. I guess that’s pretty good for a start, and I hope to find some less obvious combinations down the track.

Red And Leopard

I’ve finally made it all the way back through my old posts, tagging each item of clothing. It was a reasonably big job, but I figured the longer I left it the worse it would be. I primarily wanted to make it easy to find how a specific item has been remixed in various outfits, but it’s been useful in other ways too. It’s essentially an audit of my wardrobe, and now I know I’ve worn 15 different scarves on this blog. I have purged three from my collection so far, but it does make me wonder if I’m still holding on to more than I should.

So how does it work? Well, at the bottom of each post in small print is a list of tags – for this outfit: black blazer, brown boots, leopard print scarf, red jumper, skinny denim jeans. If you click on one of those items, say “red jumper”, it will display every single outfit post I’ve worn my red jumper in (from newest to oldest). And then you too will realise that when I say I’ve “remixed” my red jumper, I’ve really just put a different coloured scarf with it.

Chicken

It has to be said: I have not been impressive during the Fox In Flats June Style Dare! I know it’s still going, and I may yet manage a couple more dares, but I really have dropped the ball here and will be lucky to rack up a 50% participation rate. I could have easily worn red lipstick for today’s challenge, but red lipstick still freaks me out and my heart just isn’t really in it any more. Having missed so many dares already there seems less at stake. So yes, call me chicken if you must.

My excuse? Re-entering the work force for the first time in four years, a steady stream of illness and injury (mostly the kids, so think “lack of sleep”), and a lot of uninspiring winter weather.

Despite all this, I am quite happy with this scarf I bought for the Leopard Print Dare. Which, by the way, I would NEVER have considered if not for that particular dare. And of course that is the reason I chose to take part in the first place – so it’s not been such a big failure after all!

Blue and brown, I find it to be a very satisfying combination.
