There are seriously not enough hours in the day.
Not enough hours in the day for all my appointments while keeping my house clean(ish) and cooking a healthy dinner every night. And certainly not enough hours in the day to waste time discarding multiple unsatisfactory outfits until I find the perfect one! I gave up after trying a couple of options this morning, and while this is definitely not my all-time favourite ensemble it was good enough to wear whilst making a small dent in my to-do list.
Today was a bad hair day – mainly due to having pulled my hair back into a pony tail earlier this morning for a run. Normally I’d just give up and wash my hair, but after seeing this head scarf tutorial from Delightfully Tacky I thought I’d try using a scarf.
I wouldn’t say I pulled this off perfectly today, but it definitely has potential. My scarf was not the ideal shape; a small square would have been better. Also my hair is a little too short to create much volume, and it would probably suit a different type of outfit better – retro inspired or maybe a dress. I think I’ll keep my eye out for a better scarf, and keep this in mind as an option for bad hair days.
Today’s style dare: Wonder Woman. That’s a tough one! I went for a wonder woman colour scheme, red and blue (with some specks of yellow through my scarf in lieu of gold). And I did feel a bit Wonder-Womanish earlier today – after working until midnight last night I was managing to exercise a lot of patience with a highly emotional Little Miss H. Alas, after returning from a visit to the local park there appeared a distinctly un-Wonder-Womanish twinge in my back, leaving me sore and moving gingerly the rest of the day. Here’s hoping it wakes up fine tomorrow morning!
Today’s Style Dare was “a new hairstyle”. I think this technically is a new hairstyle – a slight variation on the twist-and-pin that made its debut last time I participated in this dare. (Somewhat worryingly, the last time I did this dare I also wore a very similar outfit.)
After being cooped up all week with sick kids, I managed to escape the house on Saturday for a little time to myself (leaving the very capable Mr Q in charge). I bought a couple of things from Target – they have quite an impressive sale on at the moment – including this top at half price. It was 40% off, but then one of the button loops wasn’t stitched in properly so I got a few extra dollars off to compensate for the 90 seconds I’d have to spend mending it. Sure it was only about $4, but hey if I got paid that much for EVERY 90 seconds of my day I’d be doing very well indeed.
Speaking of getting paid, today was my first day of paid employment in four years (since going on maternity leave with Little Miss H). What with the challenge of getting the girls ready for their first time at daycare, guilt at abandoning my sobbing toddler (she settled in fine), the strangeness of being in a completely quiet house, and the having to WORK – I was a little scatterbrained. I don’t usually wear very much makeup, but I didn’t even realise until halfway through taking pictures that today I completely forgot to even put on a little mascara. So if I’m looking slightly paler and more tired than normal – that would be why.
And the same goes for my interesting but comfortable choice of footwear.

I retrieved this roll neck jumper from a jumbled pile of clothes at the top of my wardrobe that haven’t fit me for years, and it was great to give it an outing today. This outfit seemed a bit plain, but I wasn’t sure what to do with it. The oversized neck didn’t really lend itself to scarves or necklaces, so I added a bracelet. Which seemed to get a bit lost in the mix anyway, never mind! I think the key with this top will be to mix it with less plain items – I think it would look great with a denim jacket and printed skirt.
