Pom-pom

Quest for a Functional Wardrobe - Pom-Pom

So you may have noticed I recently had a trip to the hairdresser. She cut it way too short at the front. In her defence, she hasn’t seen me for over three months (whoops). Also I arrived a little late and flustered and didn’t really explain to her properly what I wanted. So no hard feelings, but all the same when my hair frizzes out at the end of the day I can’t help but worry that it looks like a pom-pom. I’m sure I’m just paranoid.

In other news, I spent a lovely morning at a beautiful ballet-themed first birthday party. Some of the other mums were getting right into it, making their own tutus to join in the fun. Now I don’t have any desire to wear a tutu, but I’m not beyond wearing pink, purple, floral and polka dots together! It’s not exactly baby pink and soft white (as 90% of the girls were wearing today), but it was my way of acknowledging the fun “girliness” of the occasion.

Green Belt

I recently purchased this green belt – I had by no means set out to specifically buy a green belt (I imagine very few people would). It caught my eye and I instantly liked four things: lots of holes for maximum adjust-ability, triangle cut-outs, the colour, and best of all the quality. So though it’s more than I have spent on a belt in the past, I consider this to be an investment piece that should last me a long time.

Burgundy Surprise

So far I’ve felt a little restricted with this burgundy cardigan – it’s not a colour I generally wear and I’ve struggled to find tops to pair with it. So far I’ve only worn black (or black and white) tops with it, but today I discovered it complements my floral top nicely. Which in a way shouldn’t be a surprise as it’s one of the most versatile tops I own; there’s not much it doesn’t work with.

The best thing about this development is that it opens my mind to all sorts of possibilities. After all, if burgundy looks great with this floral print, maybe it will look great with any of the colours found inside the print. Burgundy with pink? Navy? Green? Purple? Let the experimenting begin!

I quite liked the mix of striped scarf with floral print, although now looking at the pictures I’m wondering if this outfit might have looked better with my top left untucked – I think the belt makes it a little busy. Although so far I don’t think I’ve found anything that looks good untucked with this particular skirt – it’s a little on the large side and usually needs a belt to stop it looking frumpy.

In other news, tomorrow is haircut day. I’ve had a few people ask me if I’m growing my hair out and saying they like my hair longer – sorry if you’re one of those people – I’ve meant to get to the hairdresser for weeks and weeks and it’s just been slipping off the priorities list. I struggled with my hair long for many years and I’m afraid having it short is just too easy for this lazy non-hairdresser! I don’t think I’ll take it as short as last time, but I’m looking forward to having it neatened up.

I don’t know why I love this floral top so much, but I do. So despite the fact we are rapidly approaching winter I decided to find a way to get some more wear out of this summery item. Layers (both over and under) did the trick!

In other news, I have recently been nominated twice for the Leibster Award – by Rebecca from Country Girl, City Fashion and Kelly from Kiwi Womens Style. This is not a traditional type of award where there is just one winner, but rather a way to celebrate the valuable contributions of blogs with a relatively small readership. According to etiquette I’m required to answer a series of questions and nominate other blogs for the same award to keep it going, but unfortunately I can’t dedicate the time to do this properly. I did want to acknowledge the lovely ladies who put forward my name though, it is appreciated.
