Yesterday’s outfit had a tough brief to fulfil. It had to be suitable for: an appointment to sign an important contract, some furniture shopping, and many hours of sorting through old, dusty items from my Nan’s house. Of course, I could have bought a change of clothes. But when you get right down to it I just couldn’t be bothered.
Instead I chose a skirt (to look presentable for my appointment), but made sure everything was easily washable. And along with the skirt, my fleece-lined tights which I love – not only are they beautifully warm, but they are very thick so while busy clearing out the house I didn’t have to worry about accidentally flashing my underwear. Even with our crazy spring weather right now (from gale winds to hail to sunshine all in a day), I didn’t once get too cold or too hot, and was comfortable all the way until 11pm when we called it a day.

It’s that time of year – we’ve had a taste of warmer weather but it’s settled back into the cool again. In the meantime I really feel like I’m running out of ideas, so this outfit is a slight variation on a couple of others. Which kind of feels like cheating, but at the same time it’s what creating a functional wardrobe is about!
Today I spend a couple of hours hanging out at a 2-year-old’s party – these are indeed tiring events. It oscillated between cuteness overload and grating (think over-tired over-excited toddlers) – but on the whole was a good day with good friends. I find it completely fascinating to watch a baby grow up and see their unique personality emerge, which today was a celebration of.
I’m not quite sure how much I like today’s outfit, but I hadn’t worn this spotty skirt for a while and wanted to see if I could wear it in the cold weather. Turns out I can, but I’m not quite sure if I should. The black tights seem a bit harsh against the pink skirt, and although I tried to tie it in with a black belt I’m not convinced it’s worked really well.
Today was cold and for the first time this season the heater was on the entire day. I took the girls to the playground but we didn’t stay long as the wind was so chilly. Brrrrr.
My denim jacket has finally made its way into regular rotation which is great. I have a sneaking suspicion I’m cheating a bit though – I tend to only ever wear it with black. Black maxi dress, black jeans. I think I may have worn it with a printed dress once, but I’m sure if I try hard enough I can find more things to wear it with.
Other than denim jeans. I’m sorry, that’s a line I don’t think I can cross!

This is my the fourth instalment for the Pinterest Challenge, where I commit to actually using some of the ideas I’ve saved using Pinterest. Today I was inspired by this photo featuring pink, red and green. I didn’t realise at the time, but it is apparently from the J Crew Spring 2012 catalogue. Hey, so I’m not an early adopter of trends!
I didn’t have high hopes for this outfit but was pleasantly surprised at how it turned out. I certainly don’t look as awesome as the model from my inspiration picture, but I think I’ve fairly successfully captured the essence of the colour combination I admired.
Most people would agree that the colours you see together in nature are great to pair together in an outfit. Today I am a walking watermelon.
(Or possibly a flower, but as a general rule I find food more interesting.)
