Towards the end of the year time seems to speed up, like everything suddenly needs to be crammed in before it grinds to a halt for the holiday season. This process seems to have started ridiculously early this year – I’ve been kept really busy for several weeks already and it now doesn’t look like there’s be any down-time before 2014 rolls around! The good news is that it looks very much like my Nan’s house will sell quickly and easily and she’ll be in the new place before Christmas. But between here and then are still many things to organise.

My new favourite top got another outing today – I love wearing it because not only is it really comfortable, but I always get compliments. I paired it with a red cardigan today which was perfect for a sunny spring day. It’s difficult to see from the photos, but my top has some beige-grey¬†(taupe?)¬†mixed in which helps to soften the contrast between the red, navy and white.

This time last year I didn’t understand why you would buy a 3/4 sleeve cardigan. After all, you need a cardigan when you’re cold, and when you’re cold you’re just as likely to be wearing long sleeves underneath.

Since following a bunch of style blogs I’ve started to think a little more outside the box to make the most of the clothes I have. While I still consider long sleeves to be more useful to me (I really feel the cold), I now consider 3/4 sleeves to be a perfectly good option. Today I have a long-sleeved top under my cardigan – a year ago this would just not have occurred to me as a possibility. Now I just push up my long sleeves slightly (leaving a bit hanging out the end of my cardigan sleeve for interest) and I think it looks great.

I’ve kept a low profile the last couple of days – Tiny Miss P has been unwell and I’ve worn either pyjamas or clothing of equivalent comfort (and style). Thankfully it seems she’s on the mend now so today I thought I’d get dressed in “real” clothes. It’s definitely a big step up from pj’s, but comfort was still the deciding factor for all items!

Stumped

I’m at a bit of a loss. I bought three pairs of fun, coloured tights with the hope of being inspired to wear skirts and dresses more often during the cooler weather – it seemed like a great idea, but so far I just can’t figure out what to do with them. Nothing looks quite right.

One pair is navy – that’s not so bad. Navy is one of my favourite neutrals (right up there with black and white), so I’m sure they’ll be very useful. But these purple ones? I just can’t seem to find anything to go with them, which is confusing because a top in this exact shade would be easy for me to work with. And my teal pair? I’ve tried twice to wear them so far, but the result was just not good.

I have a printed skirt containing the EXACT same shade of purple as these tights, but somehow they don’t look right together. I can’t put my denim skirts with these bright tights as the denim ends up looking washed out (in a bad way). There doesn’t seem to be many options left to try. Today I went with this navy printed dress, which I think is okay, but I’m not completely happy. It just doesn’t seem well balanced – I also tried adding a red cardi but can’t decide if it looks better or worse!

I like the practicality of wearing tights, and I love the colours of the tights I’ve chosen, but so far have been unable to pull it all together into outfits I enjoy. I’ll keep trying for a bit, but if I just can’t make it work I might have to buy some good old boring black ones!

I haven’t worn this printed top for a while. Not because I don’t want to wear it, but because I thought I had exhausted the outfit possibilities. Today I tried pairing it with a red cardigan and to my surprise I really liked the result – I hadn’t expected it to work as there is no red in the print, just various shades of pink and orange. And not for the first time I found the red cardi added a great vibrancy to the outfit. Three cheers for red!
